Jonathan is a New York based composer, music director, arranger, and pianist. He earned his bachelor's degree in music theory and composition from the College of Fine Arts at Boston University.

His first original musical, The Runaway Clone, co-written with Pamela Eberhardt and directed by Joe Barros(Gigi, Beaches) was just featured in the 2015 NYMF Festival- " writer Pamela Eberhardt brings plenty of heart to human and almost-human relationships, and composer Jonathan Brenner’s melodies are remarkable and, truly, uncloneble."

Jonathan's second musical, Sapien Sapien Sapien, co-written with Mia Capotorto Sommese, had its first workshop performance this past June, and a second workshop performance this past February. In March, the show was invited to perform at the NYTheatreBarn's New Works Series, and now is in further development for a future installment coming in the summer of 2017. 

At Loreal Paris' Annual Gala, Jonathan was commissioned to arrange a twenty minute a capella medley of broadway show tunes, as an opening act for "One Night Only" an evening with the queen of soul and a living legend, Aretha Franklin. He also staged and directed the performance which consisted of a 30+ cast of singers and hip-hop dancers, who also closed the show alongside Aretha. Other side projects include his collaboration as music director and co-composer for a Frozen parody starring some of Broadway's best, including Nancy Opel, Morgan James, Alysha Umphress, Constantine Maroulis, Bill Irwin, John Bolton, and more- imdb/FrozenOnBroadway

Jonathan also works as an arranger for Davenport Theatricals for Sheri Sanders' "Rock the Performance" a new website designed to be the epicenter of all things Rock Musical.

One of Jonathan's longest running collaborations is with singer/songwriter, Nikki Tino. Together they have created an expansive catalog of indie/pop music and continue to debut new material at various venues throughout the city including The Bitter End, The Knitting Factory, Rockwood Music Hall, and Bowery Electric- Most recently Nikki Tino has been featured on Disney Radio with her new single "Shake That LaLa" and on the soundtrack of Disney's "Monkey Kingdom"  performing a cover of Salt-N-Pepa's 90s hit "What A Man".

Other performance credits include playing for the Broadway Sings concert series and gigging at various venues including Le Poisson Rouge and 54 Below. He recently was commissioned to transcribe and re-orchestrate a musical written in the 60s, and also music directed and conducted a one night performance of the piece to a sold out house at the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston. Additionally, Jonathan serves as the music director at ApplauseNY and Broadway Artists Alliance of New York City. He offers private lessons in piano, music theory, vocal tech, song interpretation, rep building, and audition prep.
